A New Beginning!

Today is a brand new  beginning of the year 2011.

Today's experience has taught me alot of stuffs. Starting with: I cannot rap in chinese.. wahahah! and that seriously I'm more comfortable behind an instrument.. =P

That aside, I think that I truly learn alot from William today in hosting, be it new words or hosting tricks, I hope to be able to at least hit 10% of his "tok gong" hosting power by March?

And today's show is also very special as it included the whole of Royal Artiste Group and Performing Group together as one big family performing and playing games. I hope you guys enjoyed the games as much as I enjoyed planning them. =)

Ok, not gonna write too much now cos tired liao.. Here's wishing everyone health, wealth and happiness in the new year!

First times

Singing Chinese songs is really really not my forte, but there's always a first time for everything isnt it? I'm like super nervous for sat's show at Chinatown Point cos not only am I singing 1 song in chinese, there's a rap in it as well.. Memorising the lyrics have been hell for an "Ang Moh" dude like me, but now at least I think I know better what the singers go through in their daily practise. =)

On top of that, I'm gonna host the show with Jessica for the full 4hrs, inclusive of preparation, games, opening and closing.. In my mind, I was like: "Die liao la", but then again I feel like giving it a try, because what doesnt kill you will make you stronger, right? (Thats assuming I dont get killed by William if I dont do as well as expected, haha)

Ok then, not a long post, but something to do before heading back to practise (I've been listening to that one song for the whole day on loop and its gonna drive me nuts if I dont take a break).

Jiayou everyone in whatever you might be doing now! =)

Memory Lane

Its coming close to the end of the year le.. Usually in this period of time, I'll be reminiscing about all the stuffs that I've gone through in this one year. This year however, is quite different from the previous ones. Somehow, all I think about is the past 2 months with Royal. =) Simply because it has impacted my life in a way nothing else had (Well, maybe cos for the rest of the year i was in army, but thats another matter).

It still seems so surreal. haha.

First email sent out to William was 9th Oct. Seems like an awful long time ago already.

16th Oct, first photoshoot with the rest of PG! Got to know Peter, Joanne, Celin, Micka, Eddy, Ying Ying, Serena, Joseph, Shanice. I think Karen was there too, but at that time we didnt know her well yet.

24th Oct, first showcase at Swee Lee Music Cafe with Peter and Joanne! Exciting and was rather nervous, cos I wasnt sure how the showcases would be like at that point of time. When I was in poly, showcases means something entirely different!

Nov series, as you guys would all already know, Nov was the time for the 4 seasons showcase!
7th Nov, Peter (Yo! Looking forward to the next time we host together! We got the chemistry man! haha! Jiayou in your ROCK Vocals! =P)
14th Nov, Joanne (Your confidence is certainly building up! Jiayou and thanks for teaching to always "React Accordingly"!)
21st Nov, Micka (Your vocal prowess is unmatched in PG, but at the same time learn to have more control dude! Jiayou, Mufan!)
28th Nov, Celin (We are your family! =) and you can always find us if you need comfort, ok? Jiayou in singing and quitting, I hope that we (PG) can be your pillar of support in this time! *hint hint to Peter and Joanne*)
Those days were tough and very enjoyable at the same time. I believe this was the period which I truly began to bond with the Performing Group, working almost every night with them.

December, ah, the month of rock! So to speak, cos in Nov we did lots of oldies (most of which I've never heard in my entire life). Well, there was still the 4 seasons showcase on 4th and 5th at Chinatown Point. The first time working with Karen, Eddy and Jessica, also got to know them better.

8th and 9th Dec, Echoloft Showcase.
It was truly a pity that we didnt get to Jam for this showcase as we initially thought we could. Sorry guys, i wish I could clone myself to form a band! =P
But nonetheless, it was entertaining, esp how I was hosting for Micka and Celin on the 9th at the last minute. That experience taught me to always be prepared to go on stage anytime to host, and I will work on it!

12th Dec
Karen, Eddy and Jessica's first showcase! I suppose it was quite ok, given that this is their first time. Hope I wasnt too harsh on them. Jiayou guys and dont be disheartened, I believe that you three will improve and will conquer the stage someday!

15th Dec
Bryan's Showcase was superb! Well, partially cos I finally get a chance to jam, on the drums somemore! haha! That aside, he is a very humorous person and a very humble dude, and to top that off, he is really good on the keyboard and his vocals are super solid! Bryan, if you're reading this, I hope to have the chance to jam with you again!

16th Dec
Shanice's Showcase is interesting as well, cos all the showcases I've done so far have all been in chinese, where in this case, there were a few english songs that I'm pretty familiar with. Despite the lack of time and practise, I think we pulled this one off fairly well. Hope to do better next time, and also hopefully I'll improve on my Jazz techniques so that we can have a greater repertoire, alright Shanice? =)

19th Dec
Elson's Showcase. One word is sufficient, AWESOME! For a last minute practise, the band was damn good (excluding me, of cos, haha!). Simon 老师, Keith 老师 and Bryan 老师 are really veterans in their field of music, which makes me want to improve more and persue music to reach their level. At the same time, Elson's singing and hosting was especially great! Not forgetting Micka for his Harmony too and his occasional comical looks. Though I was really hungry from the start, the hunger kinda went away during the songs and it comes back during the break when Elson is hosting. haha, was hoping that I wouldnt get gastric but oh well.. =P

Wow, that was quite a long entry and think about it, its only 2 month's worth with Royal! So so so so looking forward to a greater 2011! And to wrap up, thanks William for all these joy that I've been through! =) Ok, time to sleep =P

Bonds

I'll be honest, I'm freakin tired even as I'm writing this, cos of all the late nights we had the past few days. That, coupled with the fact that we have our daily jobs, reminds me that Peter and Joanne have it worse. But the thing that I wanna bring out isn't that, its the bonds we share in the performing group. Yes, we can each individually say we are tired, but we still stood by each other, taking care, looking out for each other, that's the bond we share and that is unbreakable.

I don't know how the rest might feel about the past 2 days, but I see growth in the family and in our bonds. Let me just share a few pictures. =)

Writing notes and improving on them

Peter (Mr Coke) hard at work.

Internal joke of the day. Even if you don't get it, the face is still pretty funny.

Alright, have to go to work le. Royal Performing Group, 加油!

Practise, Practise and more Practise!

I always knew that hosting, even for a small showcase, is never easy. But until today (or rather, yesterday), I didnt know it'd be that difficult to pull off. Take for example the four small scaled showcases in Nov. We, the performing group, practised and scripted the hosting portion of the show, so at the very least, i thought: "Hey, if we prepare sufficiently, it should be no prob!". And even during the showcases I managed to throw in a few lines of my own.

The rehearsals for Chinatown Point's show (in hosting) totally threw me off. I couldnt react fast enough, couldnt bring in fresh jokes and lines. It felt like a total disaster. Thankfully, with the guidance of William and Elson, we managed to come up with something viable, and i truly hope that we can bring up the atmosphere of the place and to excite the crowd.

Speaking of practise, I feel that it might be a simple word, but it carries with it the essence of Music. I've never believed in that someone cannot learn music because he/she is not talented enough, or has troubles even identifying notes. I only believe in practise. Though i plead guilty to the lack of practise these few weeks (on my instruments), it is only because i'm busy with other forms of practise, those with my performing group family.

Well, brain dead liao.. Haha, its been a really long day.. See you guys all at Chinatown Point 4th and 5th of Dec 1 - 2pm and 5 - 6pm! =)

Tis the Seasons to be Jolly!

Its gonna be Christmas soon! haha, but thats not why i'm blogging.. =P

It has been a tough month for me, going through all 4 seasons with Peter, Joanne, Micka and Celin. Each and every week has been very trying, esp with the lack of sleep and the performers going through a sick period (Think i rmb-ed someone saying spread the love or smth). And now I'm going through it as well.. Hoo boy.. Anyways, onto the actual topics:

Spring: Very lively, and personally i think the best out of the four (not that i'm gonna give rankings to the others). I thought we did pretty well with our hosting and stage antics (super good chemistry), singing wise too.. Surprisingly, this was the showcase where i had the least time to work on but still managed to find time to draft harmony.. Hmm.. weird... Anyway, I think Peter truly won over the hearts of the audience with his Gungho style of acting, mimic-ing various other artistes and singing!

Summer: Ah.. I'll never forget the 3 most important words of this showcase.. "Elaborate" and "React Accordingly". Amusing as it is, it proved useful and very apt for the situations we faced on stage that day, esp when Joanne wasnt feeling too good. I admired her effort to still persevere and to complete the showcase. So in short, we "Reacted Accordingly"!

Autumn (or also known as Fall): I termed it this way cos everytime Micka/Minnie comes up with a cold joke, I have an anime image in my head, y'know, those of people falling when the joke is seriously too cold. This showcase was not too bad, given Micka/Minnie's vocal prowess and pitch perfection. Perhaps the only downside really is that there were too many songs that are unheard of, or that lack entertainment value to draw attention. Ah well, when we're at the bottom, we can only IMPROVE, no?

Winter: The showcase really suited the theme pretty well, with most songs being smooth and gentle, with the occasional kick from the more light-hearted songs. Celin was quite nervous for this showcase as it is her first time performing rather than hosting, but i think she pulled it off comfortably well. Practise more and it'll be alright!

Its a pity i dont really have any photos to share for now (maybe cos i was on stage all 4 wks haha!), but there'll be more to come for sure! To my fellow Performing group family, Jiayou ba! =)
